Bodybuilding Fatheads?!

As we all know one of the key aspect of the bodybuilding industry is to SEE the physiques on stage and across various platforms, especially with how social media is. But for some reason, I never thought of the idea of Fatheads for bodybuilders. For those that don't know, Fatheads are the number one brand of life-size decals for walls, among other things. NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, and WWE (among other sports companies) have licensed Fatheads that sell really well. Now, I like I said before, for whatever reason, I never considered bodybuilders having Fatheads...until THIS photo of top IFBB Figure Pro Ivana Ivusic was posted on her Instagram a couple of weeks ago:

Photographer: Darren Burns (https://www.instagram.com/dburns_photoflex)

More times than now when Ivana posts photos of her physique (as is the case with every female in the industry) many likes and comments follow. The comment that inspired me to do this blog post came from 1parks1 on Instagram when he commented on the above photo and said, "I need this as a far head wall poster!" That comment hit me like a brick wall. Why are there not any bodybuilding Fatheads in existence? I personally feel they would be big sellers. Imagine this...athletes can buy their favorite IFBB Fatheads as daily inspiration. Imagine waking up and the first thing you see is your favorite bodybuilder on the wall. If that isn't inspiring, I don't know what is. Also, fans can buy Fatheads to have their favorite bodybuilders with them every day. It will be as close to the real thing as they can get in the event they are unable to meet them in person.

So you can get a feel for how a bodybuilding Fathead would look, I took it upon myself to make some concept work of how bodybuilding Fatheads would look. Again, this is concept work, so this isn't real...yet. And of course, this is a female muscle site, so I did all female muscle personalities for the concept work.

Ivana Ivusic

Christine Pomponio

Nicole Wilkins, Natalia Coelho, and Juliana Malacarne

Now...tell me in a straight face why this wouldn't work after seeing those concept works. My personal hope is that one day the IFBB will team up with Fathead to make this a reality someday. Or maybe photographers can strike deals with Fathead or similar companies to sell their works into life-size wallpapers/decals. Until then, if you want bodybuilding Fatheads, you CAN have your own made by Fathard by this link: https://www.fathead.com/custom/. BTW, if the photos don't belong to you, don't send them to Fathead.

What do YOU think about bodybuilding Fatheads? Comment below or let us know on our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Trish Warren's Next Move?

2015 Fitness International. The last time Trish competed on stage. Things could be a-changing very soon.

To make a presence in the industry, one might have to change directions to achieve their ultimate goals. Camala Rodquriez-McClure switched from fitness to figure and would go on to win several titles, including the 2015 Figure International Championship. Juliana Malacarne went from figure to women’s physique and has dominated the division ever since, including winning 2 Olympia Women’s Physique showdowns and winning the first-ever Women’s Physique International back in 2015. Shanique Grant went from figure to women’s physique and in her first women’s physique show won it and is not qualified for the Olympia at 20 years old, one of the youngest to ever qualify for the event.

Which brings me to this…is one of the biggest names in the fitness division finally making the leap to a different division that fits her body type and training more? I’m referring to one of FitGems Nation’s favorite competitors, Trish Warren. For anyone that has followed the industry for at least the past decade, Trish has been one of the top fitness competitors on the planet, competing on multiple Arnolds and Olympias. The last time she stepped on stage was in 2015 during the Arnold Sports Festival. On social media, she has all but confirmed that she’s taking her fitness journey to the next level. Looking at her social media, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what that next level is. I’ll give you a hint…Juliana Malacarne just happens to be the current queen of that division.

For the last few weeks, we have noticed some things about Trish that she’s not done before as much as she’s doing now. For one, she’s flexing quite a bit, and by quite a bit, I mean A LOT. At first I thought it was one of those “She’s embracing her physique a bit more. AWESOME!” kind of things…and there’s nothing wrong with that. Heck, in fact, I have no issue with that whatsoever. You put in the hard work in the gym and in your eating, it’s only right that you embrace your physique in any way you can.
\
But then May 13th happened.

This might have been posted on a Friday the 13th, but there was nothing "bad luck" about this at all. This just seems...right to us!

What's so special about May 13th, you ask? She posted the above photo on her social media accounts…and I made a comment about that she would be great for the women’s physique division despite being a fitness woman through and through, but it was just one guy’s opinion. She replied with the following: “I like your opinion!!! Stay tuned…” Right there, my heart skipped a beat and my mind kept say one word over and over again…”Game…changer”. Should Trish be switching divisions, this could be a big thing for not only Trish, but for the division itself. Don’t believe me?! Let me introduce to you Exhibit A: Trish Warren from 2009.

I’ve seen videos from the Arnold and Olympia from that year. I’ve seen photos from those shows. That look might not have been awarded so well (which made me sad), but I dare for you to show me how can you NOT be taken aback by that. Based off that look and the women’s physique rules today, she would be winning shows left and right.

Maybe Trish's best look (muscle-wise) to date. From the 2009 Fitness Olympia
Photo credit: Dan Ray (for RxMuscle)
Something else that has caught my attention: She is changed her training up a good bit. Her training (according to Trish herself) used to be light weights and high reps for conditioning in the fitness division. She is now doing heavier weight training (and I’m assuming lower reps, but I’m not entirely sure) which is something she hasn’t done. She has shown time and time again that Trish can develop quite the muscular physique and now with this change of training, except not just a (slightly) bigger Trish Warren than we’re used to, but a better Trish Warren as well.

Let me make is abundantly clear…WE’RE not saying Trish is heading to women’s physique. We’re just saying that all signs seem to be leaning toward that based off her own words and photos. It's all but confirmed, but we will wait until she makes the official announcement herself. This post is just speculation based off her social media posting over the last few months. Whatever is next for this IFBB superstar, it looks like she could potentially be in the best shape in her entire career. We wish Trish best of luck in this upcoming chapter, as well as the entire Warren family (Branch and Faith Lea) in their endeavors!

Trish competing WITHOUT the heels? Stay tuned, ladies and gentlemen! :)

Our Take on Dana Brooke's NXT Debut

(All photos are from WWE.com)

This week on NXT, the NXT and WWE Universe was formally introduced to the newest Diva, Dana Brooke. Fitness fans have known her for quite some time in the fitness industry as Ashley Sebera. She has been a fan of WWE for quite some time and at one point she was actually rumored to have already signed with NXT (that was the time when current NXT Diva Alexa Bliss (Lexi Kaufman) and former prospect Christina Vargas were signed). That turned out to be false at the time, but she would later on be offered a developmental contact several months later and has been doing her thing on NXT live events.

Welcome to Brooke City, Blue Pants!

As mentioned earlier, Dana would make her official debut on the April 15th edition of WWE NXT on the WWE Network. Right away, she came out doing a flip here and there and showing off what she worked on building for years. Arrogance, cockiness…if you got enough of that, I don’t care how beautiful you are, you’re gonna get booed. So mission accomplished on getting her character down pat. Now on to the match itself…not everything is gonna be perfect on your first match. I’m sorry, it’s not gonna happen. It was obviously she was a bit “green” (that’s the term used for those that aren't as experienced in the ring), but she showcase her strength quite a bit, which helped make up for her greenness, which WILL improve with patience and dedication. Speaking of power, her finisher is NASTY!! That’s something you would expect a guy to do, so major kudos to Dana for having a unique finisher. It’s definitely not S-A-W-F-T…SAWFT! (You’re welcome, Enzo and Big Cass).

BROOKE...SMASH!

Here’s where I get mean…not to Dana, but to her detractors. Most internet dirtsheets want the wrestlers to be perfect from the word go and will lash out on anyone who isn't, and that does double for the ladies…especially those who don’t come from an independent wrestling background. Dana is from the fitness world, so you know they picked her apart piece by piece, as well as those in the IWC (internet wrestling community). Take a look at sites such as Bleacher Report and others to see what I’m talking about. Is it fair? HELL NO. Do they care?! HELL to the NO. Is it fun to make them eat crow. OH…HELL…YEAH!! And I truly feel Dana will make every single one of those haters eats it by the plateful sooner than later. Last I checked, Trish wasn't the best when she started, and looked how she turned out. I will say this, most people see that Dana has SOMETHING special that you just can’t teach, no matter what type of tools you have at your disposal (looking at you WWE Developmental Center…even though I would love to go there on a weekend just to try it out.). Once all the stars aligned, I think most haters and critics will see that WWE/NXT has something special with Dana.

With AJ’s retirement, now’s the time for the Divas division to step up and for someone to take over as the new face of the Divas division. Dana Brooke isn't there yet, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if one year from now, we see Dana on top of the NXT women’s division as their champion or maybe even on the main roster in the Divas Championship title hunt or as Divas Champion. We have Dana’s back. We support Dana and wish her the best of success. So to those that want to see her fall, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news…you don’t get to win this round. Dana Brooke is on her way to do major things in NXT and WWE. WHEN (not if) she does succeed, we’ll make sure to send you some crow and humble pie to eat on…and in honor of Dana, we’ll make sure it’s low in fat and high in protein. ;)

Keep hating, haters. Her fun has only just begun!

For more on Dana, follow her on Twitter at @DanaBrookeWWE as well as on Instagram, and make sure to see her and all the NXT talent on the WWE Network ($9.99 a month, no commitment) Wednesday nights at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central.

Tracy Meinhart: Newest Featured Contributor for FitGems Nation

Remember this name...Tracy Meinhart. While most of you are not familiar with her right now, I have a feeling you will be by the time the 2014 Jr. USAs roll around.

Her first show: Complete. domination.

Tracy Meinhart is a NPC figure competitor, originally in Florida and now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. She first competed in 2013, and in all honesty, you couldn't have asked for a better first year in the amateur rankings. She won the Overall Open and Masters figure titles at the 2013 Hub City Fitness Quest, her show debut. It was my first show to attend, and I can tell you from personal experience, mouths were dropped when she stepped on stage. It was almost unfair to the rest of the competitors, and she was clearly heads and shoulders about everyone else who competed with her that day. She would end up following her big debut by competing in the 2013 NPC Tennessee State Show a few months later. She would win Overall Masters Figure and would take 1st place in the Open Figure Medium class, just barely missing the overall. The scary thing about that...she wasn't at her best at the NPC TN show and she did that good.  To say that 2013 was a heck of a year for the figure newcomer would be an understatement.

Tracy now looks to the future with aims to become a IFBB Pro Figure competitor, as she will compete in her first National-level show at the 2014 Jr. USAs. Chances are high, but it won't be easy. We at FitGems are happy to announce that Tracy will be a featured contributor for our blog in the weeks and months ahead as she gets ready to compete once again. She will be posting photos and write-ups on this blog from time to time. We hope to have the first one from her soon.

Look for this woman to do damage in the National figure scene next year!

Juliana Malacarne, IFBB Champion...FINALLY!

May 19, 2012
Tribecca Performing Arts Center
New York.

The day and place many female muscle fans claim that the IFBB "got it right".

Seven years of disappointment and despair meant nothing after one moment of triumph. On this day, the world would watch as a beautiful, muscular, feminine Brazilian competitor with a worldwide fan base that is just as big as (if not bigger than) the top-placed competitors in the world make her debut in a division that many pegged to be "tailor-made" for her. She would enter this show in the best she's looked since becoming an IFBB Pro. And unlike in the past...she was rewarded for it. Juliana Malacarne is the 2012 New York Pro Women's Physique Champion...and the fans (and many competitors) of the female muscle world rejoiced.

While Juliana was a favorite to win by a good deal of people, let's not get it twisted that she was gonna win this thing easy. The line-up was STACKED with 28 other competitors, some of which we haven't heard from in quite some time. Some of the competitors included Dana Linn Bailey (the first women's physique pro), Debbie Barrable (formerly Leung, who has had twins prior to the New York Pro), Dayana Cadeau (former top bodybuilder), Marina Lopez (who has competed in every single pro women's physique event this year), and Jillian Reville (who, prior to this event, placed in the top three in her previous outings). There was no shortage of talent, so to beat them showed that Juliana was more than worth the hype and praise she's received from fans over the years.

While a great physique is needed to win a contest (the IFBB IS a physique federation after all), It's also about having that "it' factor. Something you can't develop in the gym, no matter how hard you try. You either have it or you don't. Juliana had "it" at the NY Pro. She is without a doubt the most muscular women's physique winner thus far, but like the other winners, she had that "it" factor that you just can't put into words. And as it's been preached over and over and over again...whoever presents the best package ON THAT DAY walks out the winner. It's hard to argue that point here when Juliana got a perfect score from EVERY JUDGE there. To do it on one of the biggest stages not named the Arnold or Olympia in the biggest women's physique line-up to date speaks volumes. Oh yeah...did I mentioned that one of those judges happened to be JIM MANION?! For those that don't know who he is, he is the chairman of the IFBB aka the head honco. Hmm...if THAT doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what does!

If this doesn't leave you speechless, do me a favor and check your pulse. (Photo credit: Muscular Development)

So...what does this mean for women's physique going forward with Juliana's win? Did we witness a game changer at the New York Pro? Every big sporting event has them: New England Patriots winning their first Super Bowl, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin joining the Los Angeles Clippers, CM Punk's infamous "pipebomb" speech on WWE. I can name more, but I think you get the point. There are still plenty more women's physique shows to go and we are not a full year into IFBB women's physique, but I have a feeling a statement was made. The standard (IMHO) will be set when the IFBB has Physique Olympia, which I hope will be in 2013. After this weekend, I have no doubt in my mind that Juliana will be part of that event. The question is now "Can Juliana have success in the IFBB?", it's now "How MUCH success will Juliana have?". At this point, the sky's the limit for her.

To Juliana Malacarne and her fans...you waited seven years for this moment. Take it in, drink it in, eat this up. If the New York Pro's any indication, there's plenty more where that came from.

BrittanyBFit on FitGems Nation: Tabata Exercises

How would you like to do four minutes of training and get the same benefits, aerobically, as someone who completes 45 minutes, on the treadmill, at a steady pace?? Yep, you read this correct….FOUR minutes, with the right amount of intensity, and you will turn your body into a fat-obliterating machine!!

What is this!?! “It is a form of High Intesity Interval Training (HIIT) which is a a method of aerobic exercise that uses short workouts but super high intensity to accelerate fat loss. Tabata used a 2 to 1 ratio of intense activity and recovery period that increase aerobic capacity AND improved anaerobic capacity to some degree. The best of both worlds!

How does it work? Most of the time we perform either aerobic (cardio) OR anaerobic (strength training). The problem is that just doing cardio doesn’t help our strength and just strength training doesn’t help our aerobic capabilities. Tabata training gives a big boost in our aerobic capacity and also benefits us anaerobic. That’s right! It is SOOO hard that both systems are impacted! So get ready for some of the toughest exercises you will EVER do!

I am excited to walk you through this intense protocol with an EXCLUSIVE workout video for BrittanyBFit.com members. I have named it the “ultimate Tabata workout”, and I can not WAIT to share it with you and hear your feedback!

BrittanyBFit on FitGems Nation: Exercising on Vacation! :)

As announced, Brittany Beede, formerly WWE Diva Jamie Keyes, has joined FitGems Nation as a special guest blog contributor! Here is her first blog for the site: exercising while on vacation. ENJOY!!!

Summer is rapidly approaching and family vacations are being booked. Whether you are embarking on a flight to the sunny beaches of California, cruising to the islands, or planning a thrilling trip to Las Vegas your workouts can easily accompany you. You already live a healthy lifestyle, so why not continue it while you are away!?! Not only will this allow for extra energy throughout the trip, but it can be an easy way to set you up for success when making food choices later in the day. Just because you are on vacation doesn't mean your diet needs to be.

Being away from your routine can be challenging, but a vacation is a great time to try alternate activities. Use this time to do something different such as kayak, take a hike, go for a run on a mountain or barefoot in the sand, or find unique group fitness classes at a local gym. This is a great time to give your mind and body a break from your usual workout routine and allow you to explore a new area. You can also get your family involved and use this as time to create enjoyable, healthy, positive memories.

Make sure you leave for your vacation with a plan. Many decisions on a trip are spontaneous, but planning to workout can't be one of them. Pack with a purpose, bringing with you easy and convenient gym gear. Add workout attire along with resistance bands, a jump rope or even something as small as a deck of cards (see my new VACATION workout at BrittanyBFit.com: http://www.brittanybfit.com/deck-of-cards-vacation-workout/). Although it can be hard to find "me" time on a trip, it is much easier if you have your luggage packed with items that can make working out easy without even leaving your hotel room. Set your alarm and begin your day with a quick workout to jump-start your metabolism.

While a bit of rest and relaxation are always called for, there’s a fine line between taking a break and being lazy. Be the SEXY, STRONG, and UNSTOPPABLE person you are and find some way to stay healthy, happy, and in-shape even while enjoying your time away! Happy travels!:)

Guess Who's Joining the "Promoting Real Women" Team?

Yep, yours truly has been asked and invited to write for the popular Promoting Real Women. I want to give a heartfelt thank-you to Jason Adams for giving me this opportunity to write for his blog. I’m very thankful to God that I can call Jason a great friend of mine and an inspiration to me. Talking with him via phone and Facebook has made me realize how much alike we really are, and how much the both of us care about the athletes of the female muscle world.

So over time, I'll be posting on topics that I will post exclusively for Promoting Real Women, including old topics from the FitGems blog that will be updated. As a matter of fact, my first topic on Promoting Real Women will be about the state of female bodybuilding in the NPC/IFBB. Here's my original topic from it, when I did this in 2008:http://fitgems.blogspot.com/2008/07/my-thoughts-on-state-of-womens.html
How much has it changed? You'll find out soon enough.

Please join me on Promoting Real Women at http://promotingwomen.blogspot.com/, as I've already done an introductory post there, just basically saying who I am and such. If you haven't done it yet, PLEASE go out there and support Jason Adams and Promoting Real Women!! :)

Jason Adams Joins FitGems Nation

Over the weekend, a new member to Team FitGems was added. I've posted on him a few times before on here about his blog Promoting Real Women. I'm proud to announce that Jason Adams, founder of the Promoting Real Women blog, is now a part of the FitGems team!

Jason will be an administrator of the main FitGems Nation website, as well as an admin for the Facebook fan page as well. In addition to that, he will also be writing on the blog from time to time. Word of caution...he is VERY opinionated, much more than me. Like me, he wants to see the female athletes of this industry get better treatment and better, proper recognition.

You can view his interview I did with him earlier at http://fitgems.blogspot.com/2010/05/interview-with-jason-adams-founder-of.html, and don't forget to check out his blog at http://promotingwomen.blogspot.com. If you want to follow his personal journey to the bodybuilding stage, go to http://www.jasonsjourneytothestage.blogspot.com/.

On behalf of everyone at FitGems Nation, WELCOME ABOARD, JASON!!!!!!!!!!

Changing Your Goals (by Lizzy Ostro)

If you’re reading this, you’re most likely a pretty driven person with a set of goals that you wish to accomplish. Not just anyone can walk on stage in 5 inch heels and a bikini with confidence. The dedication and hard work that is put into those few minutes on stage is grinding, but absolutely worth it.

Most of us set goals a few times per year. A lot of time is spent thinking about these goals and when we write them down, they are set in stone. But should that always be the case?

If we set out goals and do not complete them, we all feel like failures. There may be many reasons that your goals weren’t accomplished, but if you did all that you could, there is no reason to get down on yourself about it. Rather, maybe it’s time to change your goals. Maybe you were a bit ambitious with your goals, and this might be just the right time to adjust your goals and reevaluate what you want out of life.

It can be pretty easy to get caught up in competing. I, for one, take the sport very seriously and sometimes forget that there is another world outside of competing. I’ve only competed in two shows, but my training, eating, and sleeping schedule all revolve around getting my body to the condition that I want it in. I’m not always perfect, but I strive to be perfect and that is what keeps me engaged in my training. I am a very competitive person, and I won’t step on stage unless I feel that I am bringing the best package I possibly can to the stage. There will always be more shows. I repeat, there will ALWAYS BE MORE SHOWS.

Recently, I was faced with a dilemma. This entire year I had been planning to compete at a national show. First plan was Jr. Nationals, but when push came to shove, that wasn’t going to happen for financial reasons. NPC USA’s was next on the list and I began dieting about 16 weeks out for this show. Last week, at just 4.5 weeks out from the show, I decided that this wasn’t my show, and that I would not be competing. The measures that I would have to take to be ready for this show weren’t the healthiest, and even still didn’t guarantee the look that I wanted. I risked burning off the muscle that I worked extremely hard for, and my mind was telling me that this just wasn’t my show. Stepping away from a show after training hard for 12 weeks was and is really tough. It made me feel like I was quitting, and that I was a big F-word. No, not that word; this one: failure.

I thought about it for a few days and came to this conclusion. The goal that I set for myself was a great goal, but had I continued to strive for it, I would have sacrificed my health and body. For someone who is looking to do just one show and be done with it, this might be acceptable to them. For the 12 weeks that I did prepare for it, I put in 100% of my efforts. My diet was spot on and so was my training. I can’t be mad at myself for doing all that I could. My body just wasn’t ready for it and I can’t force it.

I like competing, and I want to continue to compete for as long as I enjoy it. And in order for me to do that, I need to think long-term. I came to a big realization while I was thinking about all of this. In order to get long-term results, you need long-term goals. If that means that I won’t be able to step on stage until August, September, or even October, then so what. What is the rush? As far as I can see, competitions aren’t going anywhere. Maybe changing your goals isn’t such a bad thing after all. As long as it isn’t an excuse used to put OFF your goals, it can be beneficial to your mind and your body. Work hard every day towards the things you want out of life and don’t ever lose sight of that.

As I continue to grow on my journey as a bikini competitor, it amazes me how many new things I learn each day. This new lesson has taught me another side of patience that I hadn’t encountered before and has left me with a new mantra: Short term goals will only get me short term results, and I’m in this for the long haul.

New Site Alert: Fit Stop Central

Hey everyone! I've been informed of a great new blog side dedicated to the business side of being a female competitor. The site is called Fit Stop Central. FSC provides information that can help those that are full-time or part-time in the bodybuilding industry. In these economic times, competitors need all the help they can get. This just might be one of the most informative sites you'll ever need. It just opened today, but trust me, this is one blog you will want to bookmark right away.

Fit Stop Central is run by one of my best internet friends, dallas3. If you're part of Siouxcountry, RxMuscle, or FitGems, you know this guy quite well. :) If not, let me tell you a little about him. Like me, he's one of the young guns taking a stand and willing to go above and beyond to give respect back to the female muscle industry and all of the competitors. You won't find many people quite like dallas3; I promise you that.

Here's the link to his site:
http://fitstopcentral.wordpress.com

I HIGHLY recommend you bookmark this site.

If you have any questions, please contact dallas3 on Siouxcountry, FitGems Nation, or RxMuscle.

What do YOU want me to write about on FitGems Nation?

I'm thankful that many of you take the time to read on things and opinions I have to say on some parts in the industry. So as my way of saying thanks, I'm going to give the power to you. What is it that YOU want me to write about? WHO is is that you want me to write about? It is a certain show? A certain competitor? My views on today's figure standard? My thoughts on whether or not a bikini division should exist in the IFBB? Should another federation step up and challenge the IFBB for supremacy? I want to hear your ideas. I'm open to any and all ideas and suggestions.

You can either send me a Twit (http://twitter.com/fitgemsnation), email me (admin@fitgemsnation.net), leave a comment via the Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/FitGems-Nation/172803974346?ref=ts), or leave a comment below.

Once again, thank you everyone for all the support! :)

So You Want to Compete?! by Lizzy Ostro

I am now 8 weeks out from my first national bikini competition, and this is where the nerves really start to heat up! Of course, making sure my body is in peak condition is of high importance, but it’s the minor details that are stressing me out the most!

The Suit: $50 - $1,000 Depending on how much money you have at your disposal and how much you’re willing to shell out for a top quality suit, finding a suit that flatters your figure, and a color that brings out your best features can be a daunting task. Bikinis are basically made in a few different styles, but every girl’s body is different. I am a flat-chest, long torso, long leg kind of girl. Straight on I’m kind of boxy, but if I turn to the side, you will see my lovely lady lump. Yep, I’ve got a booty. Needless to say, finding just the right suit can be difficult, but that’s why we have tailors 

The Tanning: $50-$150 To the innocent bystander, we all look like we got into a fight with a puddle of mud. In reality, it’s one of the sacrifices we give to look great on stage. The extravagant tan looks just plain ridiculous in broad daylight, and is by no means an attractive look. However, when you step under the extremely bright lights of the stage, you look like you belong, and it brings out your figure to the fullest. I won’t even get into what your skin starts to look like about a week after the competition (think Michael Jackson going from black to white), but it’s just a part of competing. Bending over so your tanning expert can make sure you have no lines on stage is a totally different story in itself, but I will just preface by saying that you must feel completely comfortable being naked and in awkward positions. Moving on….

The Hotel: Up to $500 Again this depends on how much you’re willing to spend and how long you’re staying in that city. Some go for luxury, some are okay as long as there is a clean floor to sleep on. The big thing that is an absolute MUST for any competitor staying at a hotel is the refrigerator. If you are able to pull off a microwave as well, then you’re just plain lucky. All of that pre-cooked chicken and asparagus has to go somewhere, after all. Find a few girlfriends to share the room with to cut down on costs, and obviously to rub your bikini bite on you. Hey, someone’s gotta do it. You will become closer to these people than you ever thought possible, that’s for sure.

The Hair: $50 - $100 This is a pretty crucial part of the process. You want to look dazzling on stage, and a good hairdo can bring this out. Some girls prefer to just keep it simple, and some girls go all out with crazy curls and updo’s. I have redunkulously (yeah I said redunkulous) long hair, so I like to go with long, flowy curls. It looks best on me, and most importantly, I feel most comfortable in it.

The Makeup: 50- $150 This is one gift I am thankful for. Although I couldn’t do someone else’s makeup to save my life, I am able to do my own pretty well. Stage makeup is completely different than your every day make up or even your “night on the town” makeup. You are on stage with bright lights and you need to shine. This equates to putting on pounds of makeup. In regular light, some might mistake you for a clown, or worse, Lady GaGa, but on stage, you will look amazing. My best advice: Become really good friends with a make-up artist (if they do hair as well, that’s icing on the cake, but don’t eat the cake until after the competition) and make them follow you around to your competitions.

The Nails $40-$60 I made the mistake of showing up to a competition without my nails done once (gasp!). I didn’t think anyone would notice, but after placing 5th and not being happy about that, I talked to the judges. “Your hands and toes didn’t match and weren’t done.” I guess they noticed. Although to me that seems like a stupid reason (there were other reasons too, mind you) to make someone place lower, I realized that overall stage presence is a big deal. Do whatever you can to look great on stage, this means shelling out a few extra dollars to get yo’ nails did!

The Shoes $20-$40 This is the cheapest part of competing. It’s also the most fun because it’s an excuse to wear 5-6 inch clear stripper heels and not be considered, well, a stripper. Not that there’s anything wrong with strippers, but you actually get to be considered classy while wearing them. Double score!

The Entry Fees $200ish This is fun. Not only do you pay an entry fee, but you pay a fee to the organization you’re competing with. They always get you somehow!! Such is life…

The Travel Accomodations $Varies This can be really cheap or really expensive. It all depends where you’re coming from and how you’re getting there. If you are only a few hours away and can drive, that’s your best bet. Not only is it usually cheaper to drive (unless you are like me and drive a big diesel truck that gets negative 6 miles to the gallon) but it’s easier to pack! Bringing protein powder and 5 pounds of pre-cooked, pre-bagged chicken can cause quite the back-up at airport security. If you can drive, do it. If not, freeze your chicken, then pack it right before your flight. It will thaw out some on the flight, but won’t spoil (hopefully.)

Posing $ 1.5 bajillion Posing coaches are expensive. If you can find a friend/former competitor or anyone that knows a thing or two about posing, you are better off doing that. Posing coaches are a great tool, and stage presence/posing is extremely important in overall scoring. If you have the extra funds, go for it, if not, get a mirror, log on to You Tube, start doing your daily chores in your heels, and practice, practice, practice!!

As you can see, all of those additional components of competing (read: stresses) that I mentioned had nothing to do with dieting or training. The dieting and training are essentially the least stressful. Sure, they are tough and must be on point, but when you know what you’re doing, it’s just a matter of doing it. Getting everything coordinated is quite the task in itself.

I’m not trying to scare anyone off from competing. As pricey and stressful as it is, the rewards of competing outweigh them immensely. Your confidence, resilience and overall outlook on life change with competing. It has been the greatest influence on my life and I wouldn’t trade those experiences and future experiences for anything in the world!

Poll Results for April-May 2010 and New Poll for Summer (June-August) 2010

Thanks to everyone that voted on the poll that was supposed to have been just for April, however I decided to give the poll another month of voting. I asked you How do you feel about IFBB Pro Bikini, with its first couple of shows in the books? 59% of you said that it's a great addition to the IFBB (which I agree with entirely),while 41% of you said that it's just another T and A division for the IFBB. I'm very surprised no one chose the option of "I need to see the rest of this year's shows to make an opinion". I can only assume that either you like the new division or you hate the new division. All I can say that the division is here, and it will be here for quite some time. Deal with it. :)

Now, onto a new poll, which I'm PURPOSELY extending until the end of August, because I really want to get your opinion on this one. The poll question for Summer of 2010 is...

Should IFBB follow the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and NASCAR, and adopt an All-Star Weekend? Yes, No, or Maybe?

Some of you might be scratching your heads on this one, but it will make a bit more sense with a post I'll be doing about it within the coming days. I think you mike like what I have in store for you.

Interview with Jason Adams, founder of Promoting Real Women blog

I'm honored and privileged to have the opportunity to interview one of the top female physique supporters out there today, Jason Adams. For those that don't know, Jason is the founder of the Promoting Real Women (a blog that I highly recommended when it was taking off a while back (http://fitgems.blogspot.com/2010/01/fitting-review-promoting-women.html). I'm so glad I found this site, and I'm even more happy that I can call Jason a friend. His heart is in the right place, and I know he will do well in life and with his blog. Ladies, after you read this interview, I encourage you all to get in contact with Jason and see if you can get on his blog. You won't be disappointed.

Now onto the interview:

FitGems Nation: First off, it’s an honor to interview you.
Jason Adams: Honor is all mine. You have been doing what you do much longer than I have, so for me this is an honor and almost like validation for me, that I am accepted. Still seems weird anyone would want to interview me though.

FitGems: If you could, tell us a little about yourself.
Jason: Well, obviously my name is Jason Adams. Born raised and live in Lakewood, Ohio, which is a suburb of Cleveland. I have one sister. I don't always get along with her, and at times want to scream at her, but she always had my back when we were little and I will always be thankful for that. I am that almost 34 year old who still lives with his parents, and I am ok with that. In a year, I will be in Vegas and that’s what I care about. My parents have always supported me, even when I was the trouble making school skipping punk kid, and now in my bodybuilding goals, I couldn’t do it without them. And I have a nephew who is like my own. Love him as much as anyone. Love sports, (L.A. Lakers, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Penguins, and above all, Toronto Blue Jays), but MMA and boxing are my passions, along with obviously bodybuilding. Was always athletic growing up, until my hip screwed that. I was born with a degenerative condition called leg perthies, which is basically a medical big word terminology for messed up hip. Pain got really bad, and the activity ended. Now I am on a mission to compete in bodybuilding. I started at 292lbs, and am around 250 now. I am not doing it for any other reason than to say "If I can do this with my medical limitations, then anyone can". There are days it hurts and getting up is hard, but I do it. I am saving and in one year will be moving to Las Vegas to let Danny J Johnson do all my training. She does my diet now, and I have a great trainer here named JT Wood. So that is a long way of saying, I am a pretty boring person.

FitGems: What got you interested in the female side of the muscle industry in the first place?
Jason: Actually, when I was in middle school when I was "sick" and home from school I would watch Corey Everson's Bodyshaping show on ESPN and was in love. My first real exposure to female bodybuilders and thought it was so cool. Became fascinated by it. That’s when I decided I wanted to train, but never had the motivation. Then you grow up and learn about it and realize there is so much more to it than the cosmetic aspect. But back then it was that show, and the Fitness America stuff on ESPN. It wasn’t until recently, within the last 6 or 7 months when I actually got to start meeting and talking to some of the women when I got entrenched in it.

FitGems: How did you come up with the idea of having a blog based on just interviews you do with the female athletes?
Jason: I always enjoyed writing. I always wanted to write a book. Just wanted something to write about somewhere. My friend Georgia Tsao started her MMA Blog MMAggregate (www.mmaggregate.com), and I thought that was a good idea, but I have way to much respect for her to try and do what she was doing, so I figured why not do something else, and interviews kind of popped into my head. I couldn't decide if I wanted to do MMA or Fitness, and figure, why not both. There are some who probably think I only do women to kiss butt, or try and impress them, but the reality is, it is because as you know in Fitness, and it is like this in MMA, the women do not get the coverage, credit, and respect men get. That is not right, and I wanted to try and help fix that. Also, it is a way to pay back. Outside of my trainer JT, all the people who have helped, guided, and taught me, are females, and this is my way to say thank you.

FitGems: Where did the title Promoting Real Women come from?
Jason: I got the first interview sent back to me and was all excited and ready to post it, and then I realized I needed a name for the thing. I sat there for probably an hour trying to come up with a name. I knew I wanted the word “Promoting” in it. I said "I need something that will make a statement and show these are real women not just eye candy, and that shows the naïve stereotypes are wrong" Then the words “Real Women” just kind of stuck in my head, and that was it.

FitGems: Promoting Real Women has partnered up with NPC Figure Competitor (and fellow FitGems member) Skye Fisher and her non-profit organization, Fit Physiques Fight Cancer, created to battling cancer. Can you explain how that partnership came about, and may you share the website for Fit Physiques Fight Cancer?
Jason: First, the website is www.fitphysiquefc.org. For those who don’t know it is basically Skye trying to get items to auction off from people in the industry or donations to battle a terrible disease. I would love to sit here and give you a great story of long hours of meetings and negotiations, but it is really simple. I have been offered a couple sponsorships, and turned down every one. I am not doing this for personal profit. Doing it my way and to help women. However I love Skye. She is an amazing woman and a friend. It just kind of hit me one day to see if Skye was interested in being my blogs sponsor, but not a real sponsor, because she doesn't pay me or anything. More or less just my way of helping an amazing woman with an amazing cause.

FitGems: Is Promoting Real Women seeking sponsorship at the moment, and if it is, may you tell the readers how they can contact you, and if not, is there a reason why that you wouldn’t mind sharing with us?
Jason: Well I kind of jumped the gun and sort of answered this in the last question. No, I am not looking for sponsors. It has been offered, and I will never reveal by whom, but I turn them down. If it was a website as opposed to a blog, then yeah, I would probably accept. But for now, it is my blog, done my way. I can post 4 interviews in a day or go two days not posting any. With a sponsor I would not be able to go two days without doing it. But really it comes down to this. I really am not doing the work. The women are. I type out some questions and they do all the work answering, so why should I profit. I would rather help the girls get sponsored. I will not use them to make my own profits. Again, if it was a website where I was doing the work, sure, I would accept the right sponsors. And the plan is at some point to be website, so I will address that I guess, when it happens. Now I am not going to be ignorant either. If the right offer came from, say a supplement company that I actually use, and it was too good to turn down, sure I would listen. You can email me at elway78@netzero.com

FitGems: It hasn’t been a full year, yet you’ve received a bigger following for your blog site than most people in a lifetime. Seriously, you have one of the biggest followings out there today. Did you ever think you would be as popular or successful as you have been?
Jason: NO WAY.LOL. Never thought it. I figured most of the people I asked would turn me down, when in fact, I think 4 people have turned me down. Including those yet to post or be sent back to me, I have done over 300 of them. If you would have told me when I started that eventually Pros like LeslieRae Newton, Zoa Linsey, Colette Nelson, Ann Titone, Debbie Bramwell, Nicole Ball etc., or top fighters like Sarah Kaufman Erin Toughill, and Roxanne Modafferi would be doing interviews I would have laughed. When I started I hoped I could get ten women to do interviews. I credit it mostly to three women. IFBB Pro's Victoria Larvie and Tonia Moore, and future Pro Allison Moyer. First they are three of the people I most admire in this industry, but I believe them doing interviews early on gave me some credibility. When you ask someone to do an interview and can tell them "Look two pros did these interviews" it makes you look more legit. Plus Allison is so popular and it got me a lot of readers when I posted hers and again she gave me credibility with people. So I will say it now, if not for Allison Moyer, Tonia Moore, and Victoria Larvie, I really do not know if I have this blog right now.

FitGems: Will we see Promoting Real Women as a full-blown site or message board someday?
Jason: Maybe. I mentioned earlier, it is the plan, but to say the plan as fact, is to overstate it. Part of me wants to, and part of me doesn't. Part of me does because it can help me increase the exposure of the women, and maybe move to my goal of sponsoring some girls. Part of me doesn't because I suck at computers LOL, and it is so much more work, and between two workouts a day, looking for a job (and hopefully working again soon), I don't know if I have the time. But if you are putting money on it, yeah, most likely, when the time is right.

FitGems: If you could, please provide the addresses to your sites for the Promoting Real Women brand so others can view and support you and your cause to help provide respect to the industry and its competitors?
Jason: OK, the blog is www.promotingwomen.blogspot.com. Also I have a fan page on Facebook, which is also run by three competitors but mainly IFBB Fitness Pro LeslieRae Newton. That address is http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Promoting-Women-In-Bodybuilding-Fitness-and-MMA/112681648755406?ref=ts On that page I also post links to the interviews as well as have a cover model contest each month where fans can vote on who gets to be the main profile picture and a photo album of the winner, plus links for other things like contest certain girls may be in or tips and advice kinds of stuff. Also LeslieRae answers questions people have needing tips or advice.

FitGems: What do you feel about sites such as Siouxcountry (www.siouxcountry.com), Hardbody News (www.hardbody.com/news ), Bodysport (www.bodysport.com), and FitGems Nation (http://www.fitgemsnation.net) being great sites for women to get information on the industry and be actively involved without having to deal with the sexual, rude, and obscene behavior from other sites out there, who clearly have a small outlook on the women in this industry?
Jason: If it wasn’t for those sites, then there wouldn’t be my blog. You guys showed women in the fitness industry can be treated with respect, and if it wasn't for that, no one would trust me with what I do. Each site is different, but the goals are the same. These women are athletes not sex objects. I mean let's be honest, I am a guy, so let's use Allison Moyer as the example (hope you don't mind Allison). When I first found her, I thought she was the most beautiful thing on two legs. I still think she is beautiful. But I don't look at her like that anymore. I look at her as Allison Moyer the Figure competitor (should be Pro Figure competitor), Allison Moyer the athlete, and Allison Moyer the woman. Every guy looks at a woman and can find her beautiful, but that does not mean she is eye candy. They have careers and things and should be respected for their achievements in their chosen career. In this case, fitness. It is ok to look at a certain girl and find her attractive, but that does not mean you have the right to think of her or treat her like a sex object. Respect the hard work and dedication they have. These women are actually for the most par very appreciative of the support. Part of what makes them beautiful is how hard they work to get their physique. Too many people think these women train to make them more appealing and things and that isn't true. The sites you mentioned showed the women in this industry can be covered and done professionally and respectfully. It is just too bad for every great site like FitGems or Siouxcountry, there are ten sites or blogs that choose to go the other way and treat them like sex objects.

FitGems: How do you feel about the treatment of the ladies today, as opposed to about a decade ago?
Jason: That’s tough because I think there are pros and cons both ways. I think there are more people treating them with respect and as athletes now then there was then, but I also think there are more people treating them as sex objects because with the internet and things they are more visible and more known. The years ago I think the general feeling by society is that female bodybuilders were manly, very naive thinking, but the thought none the less, and that they shouldn’t be looking that muscular. Now I think there are more people respecting them as athletes, but more people also thinking of them as sex objects. But all in all, I think things have improved, and will continue to. I think what needs to change is that the people writing the magazines and sponsoring the athletes needs to change. You want your magazine to sell? Stop putting Jay Cutler on two thirds of the pages, and put Iris Kyle on some, put Heather Armbrust on some, Put Heather Mae French on some. They don't realize with the fans, I think there is more interest in the women. Same with sponsors. Just look at the Olympia. How many sponsors does Jay Cutler have and how many does Iris have. No disrespect to Jay Cutler, he is awesome, but really how many consecutive pages do I need to see him on when I read a magazine. I may get some heat for saying that, but it is just the facts. After the Olympia every magazine basically said "Jay Cutler wins Mr. Olympia....... and by the way Iris Kyle won, too".

FitGems: Would you ever think in your wildest dreams that bikini would be considered a part of the IFBB/NPC organization?
Jason: Never!!! Usually you say Bikini competition and you think of being on the beach with twenty girls on a stage jumping up and down to see who can bounce the most. Finally REAL Bikini competitors are getting their chance to show how hard they work and I think it's great.

FitGems: I personally have NO problem with bikini as part of NPC/IFBB, but unfortunately there are those that feel that it has no place in the federation. Do you agree with them, or are they just not giving the division a chance to shine?
Jason: Bikini competitors work just as hard as any other competitor. Vanessa Prebyl writes a weekly column for my blog and is a sure think future Bikini Pro, and I know how hard she works and I have such respect for her. Jenny Phantharath has become a friend and I know how hard she works. I will not name names but a Pro bodybuilder told me she thinks it is disgusting that Bikini girls get to share her stage. That is terrible thinking. How hard did she fight to get her respect? This is a top competitor. She worked hard to get there and had to fight naive stereotypes. Now you want to do the same thing? Use your false beliefs on how hard these women work and say they don't belong on stage with you? Some people say it takes away from their attention, but I disagree. I think it brings fans who otherwise wouldn’t not attend a bodybuilding or fitness show, to those shows, and helps open people’s eyes to the other competitors, be it Fitness, Figure or Bodybuilding. They may not bench 300lbs but they work just as hard. For fans who don't like it, the answer is simple......don't watch.

FitGems: How would you improve NPC/IFBB fitness, figure, and women’s bodybuilding?
Jason: That is a loaded question for me because I am a “speak my mind” person and likely to offend someone, but here goes. First, too often it is a popularity contest. It isn't always who looks best, but who knows who. That is not always the case, but it is sometimes. I have heard stories that disgust me. I do not believe anyone should ever be allowed to judge unless they have competed or are trainers, and I mean legit trainers. A competitor knows how a competitor should look. This is drastic, but lie detect the judges. I say for example. have ten judges for a show, after the scoring test each judge to make sure his scoring is what he really feels, if he fails, throw his card out, and use one from an alternate judge.

FitGems: Besides the IFBB and NPC, what other physique organizations do you follow?
Jason: Name one LOL. I have become friends with so many who compete in all different organizations, so pretty much you name one and I will follow it.

FitGems: If you could change anything about the NPC and/or IFBB itself (not the actually divisions), what would it be and why?
Jason: I think this goes back to the previous question. The judging at times sucks. And I do not mean that as the winner should not be the winner. I mean that in all parts of the results. Not just first place each time. And please start treating the women as equal. Also, do something, and I don't know the answer, to get Fitness back on track. Too many girls are moving to Figure and it is going to make Fitness obsolete.

FitGems: I’m aware that you have respect for all female competitors, but which females have inspired you to be the best you can be?
Jason: Now I know why everyone hates when I ask this question. Fear of leaving someone out. There are sooooo many. I will name the ones who are a personal help or influence to me, and please if I forget you, don't be upset.
Megan Melone- Megan has been so supportive of me and encouraging and makes me believe I can do anything.
Tisha Rodrigues- Tisha actually is an MMA fighter now, but used to compete. She also has been so supportive and always pops me up when I am down. She is that beautiful, sweet woman, who can also kick your ass.
Teri Chadwick Edwards- Not a competitor, but trains just as hard as any competitor and has believed in and supported me so much.
Shirley Madera- Shirley makes it so each day I was up and there is a text with a motivational quote for me to get me up and ready to train. She is a special woman.
Tiffany Forni- Her success story speaks for itself. Lost like 100lbs and is now the owner of one of the best bodies you will ever see. So inspiring, and willing to help me out.
Lisa Zisa- Honestly did not know her before the Arnold's and meet her because she is one of Jack and Ann Titone's Jacked Up Divas. Glad I did because she has become someone I truly admire and respect. There should be more people like her in the world.
Tonia Moore- She was already a favorite, but now with her battle with Cohn’s Disease and the way she is tackling it head on, she is amazing.
Vanessa Prebyl- For all her great writing for my blog and being a special person.
Jenny Phantharath- For being a friend when I really needed one. Jenny you rock.
Victoria Larvie- The first Pro to do an interview with me. But on top of that she is the first person I asked for advice n training and she helped more than once. IF she hadn't I may never have asked anyone else. Victoria I owe you big time.
Jamie Eason- I was ready to quit training one day because too many people were trying to advise me. Jamie out of nowhere commented on a Facebook post encouraging me. Several months later at the Arnolds she remembered me. And she has since encouraged me. Jamie you rock.
Skye Fisher- Already mentioned the respect I have for Skye. So excited to get to train with her one day. Skye has helped metro. Such an amazing woman.
LeslieRae Newton- Been such a help with the fan page and giving me some advice. She is battling her leg injury and it helps me know I can battle my leg problems. LeslieRae I hope to always have you as a friend.
Laura Kline_ Getting ready for her first show. She is what I call an advanced me. She transformed her body and is such an inspiration to me. She is a beautiful woman with a big future in the industry. She made me believe I could achieve.
Jill Crean- Two time cancer survivor says enough. But Jill is the nicest person I know. Always encourages me. I admit, I saw photos from her last show and was in tears. I was so happy for and proud of her.
Eryn Strickland -For your inspiration, encouragement you have given me
Allison Moyer- For sure the coolest person you will ever meet. Our first time talking wasn’t even about fitness. It was her trying to cheer me up from my depression. Allison you are a special woman.
Sarah Kinney- Sarah you are my studdette (inside joke). Always has my back. Took time out to offer so much help to me. Would not be where I am without you Sarah.
Ann Titone- How cool that an IFBB Pro offers her help for free with making your diet. Ann is everything that is right about this industry. She believes in me and her support means everything.
Belinda Hope- Belinda you rock. Your support, help, encouragement, all mean so much. You know I think so much of you.
Danny J Johnson- If you know me, you know what Danny means to me.....EVERYTHING. She is my trainer from another state. She is my nutritionist and helps with training, and in one year I am moving by her and letting her handle everything. She is amazing and my goal is to make her proud. I want to be her greatest success story. When I compete I don't care if I win or finish last, as long as I can look out and see her face and see her proud of me. Danny you are my HERO.
OK, sorry that was so long.

FitGems: You have mentioned that you plan to be on stage one day. Can you share with the readers what made you decide to join the bodybuilding rankings?
Jason: Always wanted to be the big muscular guy, but a combination of my hip, lack of motivation, and flat out being scared to be the new guy in the gym held me back. I don't have that fear anymore, I am full of motivation, and I won't let my hip beat me. It was just something I wanted to do, then it turned into saying if I can do it, anyone can do it. Now I have some haters. Gotten some mean emails trying to stop me, so now it is also to say F.U. to them. I am down over 40lbs since I started training and won't stop. I think I can do it. I have the most amazing support system and with JT training me here and Danny J doing my diet and helping with the training, I feel I will. I said when I started five years. Everyone said three, JT said two and Danny said one if I work for it. I am shooting for two. I am still learning and have a way to go, but I am enjoying the journey. I actually have a blog about my training, www.jasonsjourneytothestage.blogspot.com

FitGems: In addition to interviewing female physique competitors, you interview female mixed martial artists (MMA). How did you become a fan of female MMA in the first place?
Jason: I watched the second UFC on pay per view, and loved the sport ever since. It is my favorite sport. I think there is nothing more pure in sports than two men or women getting in a cage or ring for 15 minutes one on one. The respect in that sport is great. Most times after a fight they hug and show respect. You never know if it will be a stand up fight or more grappling, and it is great to see two contrasting styles clash. As far as women, same as in fitness, they train just as hard, fight just as hard, and don’t get the respect. Watch an MMA show with a women’s fight, usually it turns out to be the most exciting fight of the night.

FitGems: Who is your favorite MMA fighter: male AND female?
Jason: OK can’t do just one, so can I do a top 5?
Men: Chuck Liddell (favorite athlete period), Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin, Brock Lesnar, and Joseph Benevidez
Women: Tisha Rodrigues, Sarah Goodlaxson, Lacey Schuckman, Roxanne Modafferi, and Michelle Ould.

FitGems: About five to ten years from now, where do see the following:
a. Women’s bodybuilding
b. Fitness
c. Figure
d. Bikini
e. Women’s MMA
f. Promoting Real Women
g. You personally!
Jason: A: I see it being a lot more popular. I truly believe female bodybuilders are getting more popular and I don’t see that stopping. In ten years I see really big things for female bodybuilding.
B: God I hope I am wrong, but I wonder if it will be around. The field seems to be getting smaller and smaller at a lot of shows. Hopefully with the right people trying to help it, it will make a big comeback.
C: Huge. I think Figure is that thing where people who like some muscle but not too much muscle go to, and where the people who like Bikini type girls but with a little more muscle go to.
D: I see Bikini being as respected as any other competitor and becoming a major part of the industry.
E: I think it will be right where it is now honestly. Popular but not popular enough for a major mainstream US women’s only company. There are some smaller ones here and in Japan but not major ones. There are a lot of really talented young fighters like the ones I mentioned earlier and many others and I think that helps.
F: Hmmm. Depends. If I make it a site, hopefully huge.LOL If it is still just a blog, right where it is, hopefully just more popular. As long as I can promote the women, I will be happy.
G: Living in Vegas that’s for sure. At that point hopefully, I will have competed many times, and actually be a trainer myself. I want to be someone people can say "He did that. People said he couldn’t do it, and he did, that inspires me".

FitGems: Anything else you want to take this opportunity to plug or promote, whether for you or anything else you’re passionate about?
Jason: Yes, please check out my trainer Danny J Johnson's website www.dannyjfitness.com, LeslieRae Newton's at www.leslierae.com, and Ann Titone's at www.anntitone.com. If you want to be trained and on stage learn from Ann and Jack and the Jacked Up Divas, and of course, another great trainer and competitor Allison Moyers site www.allifitness.com. Also my store. I sell shirts, pillows, all sorts of things. Some featuring competitors who let me put them on the items. The goal is not for me to profit, but make enough to sponsor some competitors. All proceeds go to that. www.cafepress.com/fitwomen.

FitGems: Once again, Jason, thank you so much for being interview for FitGems Nation. Any last words for your fans, followers, and those learning about you for the first time? Also let the readers know how you can contact them to do an interview for Promoting Real Women.
Jason: It was my honor. Like I said, you are one of the leaders and I just follow. Cant believe anyone wants to interview me, but this was really fun. Any female competitor who wants to do an interview just shoot me an email at elway78@netzero.com. Thank you to every single person who has done an interview and every single person that reads it. There are so many amazing women and it is my honor to present them in a positive light. And please take it from me, someone who has a few haters for some reason, DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU "YOU CAN"T DO SOMETHING". Someone told me once, and I believe it to be true, "When you have that moment, that moment where you achieve the goal people said you couldn’t achieve, do the thing people said you couldn't do, when you prove everyone wrong, you earn that moment, you take that moment, that isn’t being a success, that is being heroic". Everyone deserves that moment, if you want yours, take it.

Once again, thank you so much, Jason, for taking the time to be interviewed by FitGems Nation. Please check out ALL the links posted throughout this interview, especially the Promoting Real Women links. And ladies, once again, I would highly recommend you getting an interview with him if you haven't done so already. He does this out of the goodness of his heart and asked for no money doing this. To get interviewed, contact him at elway78@netzero.com.

Still Looking for Blog Contributors

As you may know, FitGems Nation already has a bikini blog contributor in Lizzy Ostro. I'm still on the lookout for a blog contributor for fitness, figure, and women's bodybuilding. You can be a pro or amateur competitor. Long story short, I'm giving you a chance to let your voice be heard about your division. :-) You have complete creative control over whatever you write about.

I'm also still looking for a legend blogger. By legend, I mean of someone who's competed before but has retired from competition.

If you have any ideas on who I should get, or if you personally would like to write for FitGems, let me know by shooting me an email at admin@fitgemsnation.net or leaving a comment below.

Save Women's Fitness Now!!!

For those that has paid attention to the fitness division as of late, fitness has been on the decline over the last few years. Absolutely NO disrespect to any of the other female physique divisions, but fitness is arguably the most entertaining division of all the female divisions out there. Creativity, high-energy, personality, dedication...all of that is in the fitness division. For fans, they are in awe of what they can do. For photographers and those that take video, capturing their routines on film is like watching poetry in motion. In the NPC and IFBB, there's just nothing like women's fitness. So I'm scratching my head into seeing why fitness is at an all-time low.

Is it the work that is needed? The time that's needed? Now enough contests? Not enough competitors stepping up? Too many not going into the pros after their winning their pro card? I wish I knew the answer, but I don't. What I DO know is this: something needs to be done, or fitness will be nothing but a distant memory.

Siouxcountry has stepped up to the plate with the Lets's Save NPC and IFBB Fitness thread, and since fitness is what made me a fan and supporter of the female physique sport in the first place, I'd thought I'd step up to the place and contrubute to the cause by creating a blog called Save Women's Fitness Now! It's a blog that will focus solely on the IFBB and NPC fitness division, including posts on ideas to increase awareness about the division, coverage from fitness shows, posts from past, present, and future competitors, links to fitness competitor sites, and more!

Please join me in helping to reignite the flame of the IFBB/NPC fitness division and keep it from being a footnote in IFBB history.
