Sharing a TenSpot with...Stacy Wright (Interviewed by dallas3)

For those that know me, you might know dallas3, one of my best friends in this industry. For those unaware, he has closed his site Iron Bizz and will be incorporating a good deal of the site material to the main FitGems site. In addition, he did two interviews which I will post on the blog (with his full permission). The first interview from dallas3 is of IFBB Fitness Pro and 2011 FitGems Sponsored Athlete Stacy Wright! In addition to being sponsored by FitGems, she is also sponsored by Labrada and ABSolute Fitness. (NOTE: This interview was done prior to her stepping on stage for the first time at the New York Pro Fitness)

DALLAS3:
What made you want to make a career out of fitness?
STACY WRIGHT: While I would love to say this is my career, it is not. It doesn’t pay my bills in that aspect. I’m actually a full time registered nurse and independent personal trainer.
As for competing…I love to perform and I love to compete. The combination of muscle and balanced symmetry along with the fitness routine just fits ‘me’! I love everything about it!

DALLAS3: Best advice you’ve received in the industry?
STACY: Be patient and work to improve “YOU” each and every time you step on stage. Worry about the things you have control over, like your diet and training. Never about things you have no control over, like your placing in a show.

DALLAS3: Advice for women wanting to make a career in the industry?
STACY: It’s more than what you do on stage. It’s about networking, being a positive role model. Never sell yourself short of who you truly are. Then when you DO have a career in the fitness industry, it’s something you can truly be proud of!

DALLAS3:What would you like to do in the industry that you haven’t done yet?
STACY: Step on that pro stage! I need to make a name for myself within the IFBB. The goal is not necessarily to win #1. I know that’s not realistic. My goal is to be one they say- WOW! Now she is something. And remember my name when they leave.

DALLAS3: Best way you’ve found in getting sponsorship, booth work, in print ads, photo shoots, etc?
STACY: Be yourself and network. This is a pretty small industry so it’s easy to get in contact with people. It’s all about working your way up the ladder!

DALLAS3: Go out and seek potential sponsors or build yourself up first then go ask?
STACY: A little bit of both. You have to have something to offer, so building yourself up a bit gives you the confidence and knowledge to seek those sponsors. Do your research always before you jump the gun.

DALLAS3: Which do you like better, modeling or competing?
STACY: Competing! Although I do love getting some pretty photos in the process. If modeling would take off, I would be open to that option along with my competitions.

DALLAS3: Anyone you model your career after?
STACY: I’ve taken advice from many people and parts of their careers, but I have to be me and do what I think is best in representing myself. I’ve learned the hard way on a few things, and we all live and learn. I now am okay with not being the best or the most well known.. as long as I am staying true to myself!

DALLAS3: Best way you’ve saved on costs?
STACY: Sponsorships. Hand-me-downs. Wearing the same suits to shows throughout each year. Consignment stores. Choreographing my own routine and doing my own training and diet with my husband. There are many ways to go about saving in such an expensive sport.

DALLAS3:Finish the sentence….In 5 years I want to….
STACY: qualify for and compete at the Olympia. =) That was an easy one.

2011 FitGems Sponsorship

FitGems is proud and happy to announce that we will be sponsoring someone for the 2011 season! Before we do that, we would like to recognize and congratulate Victoria Larvie on her sponsorship last year. Thanks to the sponsorship, she was able to take it and help out with her finances for 2010. She is planning to compete this year and will needing your help. Details here if you are interested. We will be helping her out as well. Good luck Victoria!!! :)

Now going back to THIS YEAR'S sponsorship...Competition requires a LOT more than just going to the gym for weeks and weeks (possibly months, depending on who you are). There are things to consider such as the purchasing of suits, tickets, hotel rooms, etc. You have to take care of your business PRIOR to getting to the stage in addition you take care of business ON the stage.

Like last year, this sponsorship will take care of some of your expenses for the contest of your choice (the more money/services/products is raised, the more expenses we'll be able to cover for the winner) Depending on how big the fund gets, more than one sponsorship award may be given away. The FitGems sponsorship will be awarded during Arnold Weekend 2011 to a deserving individual chosen by a secret panel. To be fair, I will NOT be on the panel.

Rules:
1. Participants must be a member of the site OR fan page by no later than February 28, 2011 to be eligible for the sponsorship. If you join the site, either send me a PM (private message) or leave a comment on my page saying that you are submitting your name into the competition. If you are a member of the fan page, email me at admin@fitgemsnation.net, letting me know that you are submitting your name to the competition. When you get a reply from me, you are officially entered into the contest.
2. The competition the participants are competing in must take place sometime within the 2011 season after the Arnold 2011.
3. Participants can be either pro or amateur competitors, and they can compete in any division, as well as any federation.
4. Participants must write three blogs:
  1. An mini-autobiography about yourself (one page)
  2. One journal entry talking about your journey to the particular contest of your choosing.
  3. Your personal lists of do's/don'ts in being a competitor.
(If you are part of the main site, you can post them yourself. If you are just part of the fan page, email me your blogs at admin@fitgemsnation.net, and they will be posted on the main site)

5. The winner will be awarded their via PayPal. If there are other parts to the sponsorship that need to be awarded to the winner, it will be mailed on Arnold Weekend, and the winner should receive their other winnings (hopefully) no later then 4-6 weeks after the contest has ended.

The fund starts at $200 USD (United States Dollars), begun by Jason Adams and myself  If you would like to contribute to the FitGems Sponsorship Fund, click on the donate button below. If you have any questions about the sponsorship and how your company/organization can get involved, email me at admin@fitgemsnation.net and put FitGems Sponsorship on the subject line of your email. Donations (money, photoshoots, products, etc.) will be accepted until February 28, 2011.

Good luck to all participants!!!

A Fitting Review-"Iron Bizz"

For those that know me, you probably know about my friendship with the man that people know as dallas3. Some of you know who dallas3 is by his real name, but let me give you an insight on the type of guy he is. He's a cool dude who respects this business and the ladies involve. Most people probably know him via his involvement in female muscle boards such as Siouxcountry, Muscular Development, and RxMuscle, among others. He's been at the Arnold and Olympia a few times and is respected by many of the female (as well as male) athletes. I'm very blessed to call him one of my first true friends of this industry.

He runs a blog called Iron Bizz (formerly called Fit Stop Central), which is aimed at talking about the financial aspect of this sport. In his words, Iron Bizz "provides resources for female physique athletes who want to make a career in the bodybuilding and fitness industry" As we all know, the fitness industry is not a cheap one by any means. What he does is point out some of the tips that competitors have used to stay financially active in this industry. Over time, you will see the blog take a slightly different approach by putting more focus on the sponsored athletes, and not just the ones who are at the top of the heap, either. If you have not bookmarked Iron Bizz yet, I HIGHLY recommend you do so ASAP. You'll be glad you did.

FitGems Nation Online Store is OPEN!!

Hey everyone!

As you all know, I try to find different ways to help spread the word about FitGems Nation and its main objective: to give respect to the female competitors from all divisions in all federations. Not only that, but I also try my best to help you competitors out however I can, whether it's emotional support, encouragement, just needing someone to talk to, whatever. Now, I've decided to open up a online store to help not only spread the word about FitGems, but to also help support a few competitors along the way. Proceeds from all purchases made will go toward the 2011 FitGems Sponsorship, which will be given to a deserving competitor for the 2011 season. I will explain more about the FitGems Sponsorship later on this month.

The shop has a few items right now, but be on the lookout for more items to be added this week, including Save Women's Fitness Now merchandise, where proceed of THOSE items will go toward a deserving National-qualified fitness competitor.

I personally will not benefit from this shop by finances. I will benefit from it knowing I'm able to help you competitors out however I can. If you have any suggestion for what I should sell, leave me a comment below. If you personally would like to see some designs of yours on future merchandise, please send them to me at admin@fitgemsnation.net and put "FITGEMS STORE DESIGN" in the Subject line.

FitGems Sponsorship Update

As first announced on Twitter this morning, I mentioned something about a update regarding the 2010 FitGems Sponsorship.

I mentioned that the pot would increase as time goes by. I'd thought I'd be the first one to make that move. So, as of today, the pot has been increased from $151 to $200. Yes, no less that $200 will be awarded to the winner of the sponsorship contest.

In addition to the pot being increased, Eldor, the founder of Eldor Female Bodybuilding Network (EFBBN), has partnered with FitGems in ensuring that competitors get the recognition they deserve during the sponsorship contest and beyond. He will be making a personal Yahoo fan club for EVERY competitor that enters the sponsorship contest, whether you win it or not. Like FitGems, Eldor wants to help positively promote the sport to the best of his ability. Just let him know how you want it to look like, and he'll take care of the rest. A great way for established, breakout, and new stars to get easy and free publicity. For an example of his work, here's a group he made for Julie Bourassa:

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Julie_Bourassa_EFBBN/

To those that want to donate to the FitGems Sponsorship pot, it's not too late. You have until Febuary 28 to donate. And for those that want to compete, it's not too late to enter. You have until January 31st to enter. If you have any questions, please email me at admin@fitgemsnation.net. Good luck to you all!
